An Error Analysis of Students' Writing Assignments

The objective of this descriptive study was to analyze students' grammatical errors in writing assignments, case a cover letter for second-semester Computer Science students at University Semarang. target population included 21 enrolled Business English class chosen randomly from pool 50 participants. They were asked write an application English. Then, using the surface approach taxonomy, researcher examined following errors: 1. Omission Errors; 2. Addition 3. Misinformation and 4. Misordering Errors. findings show that student range most common least common, with total 67 phrases: (1) 38.8%, (2) on Sub-Alternating Forms 23.8%, (3) sub-Simple 22.3%, (4) sub-Alternating 8.9%, (5) sub double markings 2.9%, (6) regularization 2.9%. type (sub-regularization) categories do not appear all (0%).
